Angela Hilliard
No School Listed
"Hello. My name is Angela Hilliard, and I am a junior in high school in a small, very rural town in Florida. My mother and many other members of my family are Alumni of the University of Florida, and thus I have always felt that I would need to dedicate most of my energy towards academics to secure my place in that legacy. I applied for this scholarship and a few others of its kind because I had heard anecdotes from others on how foolish it would be to let these opportunities slip by, even if there is such a small chance of receiving the scholarship. I am so incredibly grateful I listened to them. It’s difficult for me to truly grasp the fact that I am now ten thousand dollars closer to not having a mountain of debt once I complete my post-secondary schooling. In my future I hope to earn a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive and Behavior Neuroscience and pursue a doctoral degree in the subject. Being able to afford this dream means so much, as my reason for choosing that major is that I feel my own experiences with a neurodevelopmental disorder and chronic illness would be able to provide an unique perspective on the topic. Again, I am so incredibly grateful and encourage others to apply for these scholarships."

This is a huge help from ScholarshipPoints because receiving this money will really help finance my upcoming classes at my university. I won't have to stress my financial situation as much as I thought I would. Since I have to rely on myself to pay for my college education, this scholarship means everything to me. Erika Lopez
The University of Texas at El Paso
"Growing up as a young Mexican American woman for my entire life, the border has been my backyard. El Paso, Texas has had my heart from the start and our sister city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico has always been mi alma, or my soul. I am a Mexican American female student who is pursuing the arts I have had the privilege of growing up seeing two different worlds at once. The culture that I have been veiled in from the very moment I breathed my first breath is everywhere and it influences me every single day. A little-known fact about me is that I was initially studying and attending college to delve into biology to pursue a career as a forensic pathologist. As I continued through my early years in college, I realized just how innate art was for me and that I needed to pursue that as a life and career goal, so I did just that. Sometimes, because of where I come from and because of social standards the arts can sometimes seem frivolous and more of a hobby rather than a life pursuit it can be hard to be accepted or to find the support whether emotional or financial. Thankfully, my family has been nothing but accepting of my love of art and they support my ambitions fully, always encouraging me to create and level up in my art studies. One of the downsides is that the field of art can tend to be rather costly, especially during these uncertain times. Classes have been modified and this can be difficult for students in securing supplies that would have been otherwise provided in class. Also securing and curating a space for creation can be difficult to do at home. This is my first scholarship where I have been selected and rewarded so it is so unbelievably exciting and humbling. This scholarship is going to allow for me to purchase all the supplies necessary for my classes and ensure my success in them. As an artist it is important to have all the tools and curate my space for creation, this scholarship is going to allow for me to purchase a professional light desk as well as several easels. So again, thank you all so much for selecting me, it definitely takes away from several stresses and financial burdens especially during these uncertain times. It means everything! With thanks and gratitude -Erika"
