When you are in high school, it seems as though college and the “real world” are so far away. But the truth is, time flies, and NOW is the time to put yourself out there and be proactive. The earlier you start building career experience, the better! Here are nine reasons why you should do an internship during high school.

1. It will look amazing on your college applications

If you do an internship during high school, your college application/resume will definitely stand out. This will increase your chances of getting accepted into your dream school!

2. Internships are a great way to make some money

Not all internships are paid, but if you are lucky enough to get a paid one, this is a great way to save up for college!

3. You will get an idea of whether this is really what you want to do

Most college students begin college having absolutely no idea what they want to major in. This is normal, but has its disadvantages. These days, most college students end up taking more than four years to graduate, costing them thousands of extra dollars and additional school work. Starting to explore possible career paths in high school is a great way to determine what you’re really interested in.

4. You will learn how to work well with others

Internships are a great way to develop crucial job skills, like how to work with different people, solve problems, and act professionally. All of these are skills that will get you noticed!

The people you work with during your internship have been in your shoes at one point. They are great mentors and can provide you with advice.
