11 Things I Wish I'd Know About Going to a Religious College
Deciding which college to go to is a huge decision. Are you considering attending a religious college? If so, here are 11 things to know.
1. You don’t necessarily have to be religious to attend a religious college
However, some schools may require a prerequisite of religion classes that you must take beforehand. Of course, no one can force your beliefs, but it is something to consider. Just make sure you’re staying true to yourself.
2. Your teachers may all have different religious beliefs
Not every professor will practice the same religion. You will be able to learn all about different viewpoints and beliefs.
3. Some schools have a dry campus policy
This may not be ideal for those of you who want to drink in college.
4. You should tour the school
Just like any other college you would consider attending, it is important you tour the school and get an idea of what it would be like to be a student there.
5. The school will probably be smaller
The class sizes will be smaller as well. This is good because it has a more intimate feel. It also allows for greater one-on-one time with your professors. However, if you are interested in meeting a bunch of new people, this may not be the ideal situation for you.
6. You will get a great education
Some people believe that religious colleges do not offer as great of an education. That is completely false. Religious colleges are required to pass the same standards and have the same credentials as any other college.
7. There will likely be a place of worship on campus
No more driving to church on Sundays! Just walk on over with your friends or go in between class time.
8. You will be around people with the same beliefs as you
Making new friends at college can be very difficult. Especially when you are trying to find people who are on the same page as you. Thankfully, at a religious college, you are more likely to be surrounded by students with the same beliefs and lifestyle as you.
9. You will have something in common with others
By attending a religious college, you automatically have something in common with the other students.
10. Most of the schools are private
Private schools are usually more expensive, so make sure to factor this in when you’re looking into different colleges and comparing financial aid packages.
11. There are lots of social activities on campus
Just like any other college, there will be plenty of clubs to join and things to do. There might be a more conservative atmosphere, but there is still a lot of fun to be had.
Wherever you decide to attend college, just make sure you are doing what makes you happy!
