7 Patriotic Films and Shows to Watch for Veterans Day

Veterans Day is just around the corner on November 11th! Veterans Day marks the day World War I ended, and is a holiday that celebrates those who have served in the Armed Forces. Embrace your patriotism with these seven movies and shows that highlight the ups, downs, struggles, and bonds of serving.

1. The Patriot

Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger star in this movie that depicts the experience of Benjamin Martin (Gibson) during the Revolutionary War.

2. The First World War

This TV mini-series relates the events of World War I in all regions of the world. See the realities of war, and honor those who have given us the freedoms we have today.

3. Saving Private Ryan

This drama based in World War II shares a tail of patriotism as a group of soldiers venture behind enemy lines to rescue a fellow soldier whose brothers died also serving in the war.

4. Captain America: The First Avenger

Steve Rogers, determined to serve his country, takes part in a secret project and gains the perfected human physique. Rogers is used as a propaganda tactic, however, when duty calls, he truly becomes Captain America.

5. Forrest Gump

Simple American Forrest Gump experiences trials throughout his life, including serving in Vietnam. This inspiring tale is a great encouragement to always follow your heart.

6. Pearl Harbor

This movie relates a romantic plot of two friends, Rafe and Danny, as well as a nurse, Evelyn. All three are part of the United States Armed Forces and experience world changing events at Pearl Harbor in 1941.

7. Band of Brothers

Based on interviews from survivors, as well as their journals, this series dramatizes the intense experiences of the 101st Airborne Division during their training and throughout World War II.

This list includes both fiction and non-fiction experiences, but all inspire messages of patriotism, gratitude, and honor for those who have served and the amazing sacrifice they make for the United States of America.
