LGBT Scholarships for Students and Allies

You’ve probably realized that many scholarships cater to specific areas of study, or personal or professional affiliation, and being a member or ally of the LGBTQ+ community is no exception! Here are five LGBTQ+ scholarships that any LGBTQ+ student should apply to:

  1. Pride Foundation

Award: Varies

If you don’t have a lot of time to spend on scholarship applications, this is the scholarship site for you. This is for LGBTQ+ students and the allies who have shown leadership potential and demonstrate significant financial need. Applicants only have to submit one application but will be considered for over 50 scholarships.

  1. Point Foundation Scholarship

Award: $10,000

This scholarship is open to all LGBTQ+ students who will be enrolled full time at an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the U.S. during the fall of 2018. Applicants must show a strong leadership and community involvement record as well as high academic achievement. Applicants must also show financial need.

  1. PFLAG National Scholarship Program

Award: Varies

This is a scholarship for all members of the LGBTQ community and their allies. Applicants must be graduating seniors entering higher education.

  1. Naughty North’s LGBTQ+ Scholarship Program

Award: $1,000

This scholarship is for any student that is currently enrolled or planning to enroll full time the following semester. Applicants will have to submit an essay that answers the question, “What action have you taken to rally support behind the LGBTQ movement and LGBTQ rights?”

  1. Women in Medicine Leadership Scholarship

Award: Four awards of $5,000

Four $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to female students that are currently enrolled in medical school. Applicants must demonstrate active leadership in the LGBTQ community.

  1. Gayborhood Scholarship

Award: Two awards of $1,000

Gayborhood is a guide to finding LGBT-supportive businesses and events around the nation. Applicants must submit an essay on their service and passion for the LGBT community.

  1. Voice of My People Scholarship Grants

Award: Two awards of $2,500

This scholarship is available to students who identify as LGBTQ, or students with at least one parent who identifies as LGBTQ. Preference is given to students who have a 3.0 GPA or higher, demonstrate leadership, and are interested in making a difference in society.

  1. Out to Innovate Scholarships

Award: Two awards of $5,000

If you identify as LGBTQ, or are LGBTQ-supportive, and are enrolled in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) or STEM-related teaching fields. This scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate student and one graduate student.
