Scholarships for Women
These scholarships are great for women and mothers from low income families who are trying to go back to school.
I chose to focus on scholarships for women because for many years women were seen as lesser than men. Although that opinion has changed over time, there are still many subtle ways in which society depicts that attitude. I believe that scholarships for women help break the now slightly higher glass ceiling.
by Maggie B. of Bucks County Community College
As Maggie points out, it's been a long road for women in education. But since the late 1970s, more women have been enrolled in college than men (approximately 58% of all enrolled students are women*). The second-wave feminist movement in the 60s and 70s garnered an ideology of equality in the education system - a system that until this movement was male chauvinistic in nature. The scholarships below encourage women of all ages to realize their academic and professional potential.
