8 Tips to Keep Your Skin Healthy This Winter

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Except… our lips are chapped, and our knuckles are cracking. Dry winter weather can take a toll on your skin, and leave you feeling less than wonderful. Take care of your skin this winter with these tips!

1. Don’t over-wash.

Face washes can dry out your skin even more - however, you know your skin best. If you can, try not to use a face cleanser every single day - try just rinsing with water on the off days instead.

2. Invest in new towels

This may seem like a small detail, but the right towel can do wonders for your hair and skin. And, to add to that, use your towel the right way. If you blot or pat dry instead of rubbing, your skin will retain more moisture.

3. Stay hydrated!

Take care of the outside of your body by taking care of the inside. If you are hydrated, your skin will be too!

4. Take a break from makeup.

No matter how expensive or high-end your makeup is, it’s probably damaging your skin to some extent. Try minimizing makeup usage to give your skin a break.

5. Chill out.

Stress is bad for your skin, and for the rest of you as well. Make sure you are taking time to get enough sleep and allow your body the rest it deserves.

6. Protect your skin.

If it’s FREEZING cold outside - wear gloves, a scarf, a hat! Where I grew up, the wind would blow so hard, it literally feels like it’s burning your skin. Keep yourself warm and protect your skin all at the same time.

7. Moisturize!

Okay, this one’s pretty obvious but here it is anyway. It’s simple: face moisturizer for your face, body lotion for the rest of you, and Chapstick for the lips!

8. Bonus tip: get the good stuff.

I understand budgeting - but is it really worth it to buy that dollar store lotion that just feels greasy on your skin? No. When it comes to products like moisturizer and lotion, you can find products that do work, without breaking the bank. But don’t go for the cheapest of the cheap. Same goes for Chapstick - trust me! If you’ve ever used a brand like Burt’s Bee’s, you know what I’m talking about. You get what you pay for. Still worried about money? During Christmas time, Bath and Body Works always has HUGE sales - stock up for the whole year!

Give your skin the time and care it deserves, and you will see happy and healthy results this winter!
