Do Long Distance Relationships Work? 6 Signs Your Relationship is Strong Enough to Survive Long Distance

Long distance relationships can be scary for a lot of reasons. But here are six signs you can look out for to see if your relationship is one that can survive long distance.

1) Goals in Life

One example is if you and your significant other both have similar life goals. If you both have the same goals in sight, your relationship is most likely strong enough to survive the long distance. You both will most likely be working every day to reach the end goal and it will motivate you and your significant other to stay together and work on the goal together.

2) Communication

Another sign that you and your partner are strong enough to survive long distance is you both have great communication skills! If you guys are both great at communication and are always looking for ways to stay in contact, you will do great! Some things couples in long distance can do to stay in contact is to always call each other at least once a day just to talk about your day. Maybe even a good morning or good night phone call will do. Another great and popular idea is talking on webcam with apps like Skype or Facetime. That way you and your partner can see each other and talk just like you guys are together in person!

3) Be Independent

Another good skill to have together is if you both are emotionally independent. Long distance relationships will be harder if you and your significant other are very dependent on each other. Both people in the relationship should have a strong sense of what they want in life and how to get it themselves. You and your partner must both be self-motivated and able to take care of yourselves and work towards your own goals every day.

4) No Trust Issues

A very important sign that you and your partner are strong enough to survive long distance relationships is when you both do not have any trust issues! This is a very important aspect as many couples break up because they lack trust. If you both are able to trust each other one hundred percent and not have any insecurities when it comes to this, you’ll be able to tackle long distance like pros.

5) Surprises & Gifts

Send each other surprises to show you care! Everyone loves surprises and being shown that they are loved! Something you can do for your partner is to send them something every once in a while! Nobody really writes letters anymore but that can be very romantic and surprising, especially when in a long-distance relationship. Going to your mailbox to find a hand-written letter from your love is very special and a great way to show that you care. Another thing you can do is send gifts! Many online stores allow you to send flowers, different foods such as fruits or chocolates, or just something on their wish list they’ve been meaning to buy!

6) Traveling

You and your partner should both love traveling! Whenever you guys go to visit each other, whether it be a few hours away or a different state or city, there is always excitement of going to a new area and exploring together! Even if you guys must meet halfway somewhere, there is so much excitement in a new adventure and making memories together
