Merit Scholarships
Merit scholarships are awarded to students who have excelled throughout their education. Merit scholarships recognize academic achievements, and aim to take some financial pressure off of outstanding students. These scholarships are often renewable which means that as long as the student maintains a certain grade point average, the scholarship will be awarded again for the following year.
High School Merit Scholarships
Most colleges and universities award merit scholarships to incoming freshman who meet certain academic requirements. Each school has its own set of requirements, but a high grade point average and decent SAT scores are usually required to be awarded a merit scholarship.
College Merit Scholarships
Merit scholarships are also awarded to students who achieve academically while enrolled in college. If a student excels during his or her freshman and sophomore years, he or she might be awarded a merit scholarship to assist them through the second half of their college career.
