Who is Scholarship Points?

Scholarship Points, a service of Edvisors is managed by a small team of really cool people who love to give away the boss' money. Edvisors, a leading provider of online education resources and financial services promotes a richer, more fulfilling education experience to students, educators and parents worldwide. ScholarshipPoints.com is our way of saying thank-you to our student customers. Return to the questions.

Why do we award free scholarships and run ScholarshipPoints.com?

As part of Edvisors, a leading provider of online education resources and financial services for students, our mission is to give back to students and to help them fund their college education with no strings attached. We also think it's good to encourage students to take advantage of our many resources and collecting scholarship points encourages that. Return to the questions.

How does Scholarship Points work?

The concept is simple, you do things to interact with various sites in the Edvisors family such as checking out resources, taking part in forums, taking surveys, etc. and we reward you with various amounts of points. The points in turn can be exchanged for entries into scholarship drawings. We get traffic and exposure for our services and websites and you get a chance to win serious money every month as well as other random prizes and promotions we offer. Return to the questions.

Can High School students join?

High School students should join! We only let people enrolled in a college enter scholarships because we need a college to send the check to. High School students can register and start building up their points; a high school student has an opportunity to earn a ton of points while also becoming an expert in financing their college education. Then when they enroll in a college they must simple update their college contact information and can spending their points! Return to the questions.

How long can I accrue my points?

There is no limit to how long you can build up your point balance so theoretically a middle school student could join and start building up mad points to start planning to pay for college. Nobody else lets you do that. Cool huh? Return to the questions.

Should I save my points or spend them as I get them?

This is totally up to you. There is no telling how many points other members are choosing to spend on any one scholarship. However, not all scholarships are the same. Sometimes we have bigger scholarships than others and so you might want to hang onto points for them. You might decide that spreading out a few points over many scholarships gives you the best chance. Since the drawings are random, it's really up to you. Do you believe in luck or strategy? Return to the questions.

What are my chances of winning?

Drawings are completely random. We've had winners who only just joined the program that month and we've had winners who worked hard and had lots of entries into a monthly free college scholarship drawing. Return to the questions.

Are there any tip or tricks I should know about?

We have a Scholarship Points forum and in there you might find clues to unadvertised bonus codes hidden around various websites. We also might stick them in different newsletters and blogs just to see if you're paying attention. Return to the questions.

Can I refer phony friends' email addresses?

You can but if they don't actually register you won't get credit. To get credit for referring a friend the friend has to register with different information than yours. If you somehow try to get around the system and we catch you, you could be disqualified. We check out all winners to ensure they didn't cheat. It's best to play fair and keep your karma intact. Return to the questions.

Can people enter multiple times with alternate email addresses?

They can but we'll know. If you win we compare records to see if any of the winner's information is similar to any other account. Sometimes a member might have forgotten their account or gotten a new email address and registered twice without trying to cheat. We can tell the difference and we'll probably let you off the hook. Other times a person might register 50 email addresses for themselves. We see that too and give you negative karma points and give your money to somebody else. Return to the questions.

How are winners selected?

We use a computer program that creates a numbered entry for every member's entry in a given scholarship. If you spent 5 points you get 5 numbered entries, sort of like 5 lottery tickets. Then the computer program picks a winner at random. Like the lottery the more tickets you hold the greater your chances to win but in the end it only takes on ticket to win. Return to the questions.

How are winners notified?

After we verify that no monkey business has gone on, we try to call the winner with the phone number they registered with. Make sure this is the number we can reach you at and keep it updated! If we can't get them we then try the email address they gave us. If there is no response we call one more time. We wait 2 weeks for them to get back to us and if they don't we give the free college scholarship to the next name we draw. Return to the questions.

What if the winner can't be reached?

Well we have actually had this happen several times. Please make sure the contact information you provide is accurate and remains up to date. When we draw a winner, the computer program also randomly pulls out a second and third place winner. After 2 weeks of trying, if we still can't reach the winner we award the scholarship to the next person in line. Return to the questions.

Why give the money directly to the financial aid office?

We give the money directly to the financial aid office to ensure we keep the program explicitly for students. If we sent the money directly to individual we would be inviting non-students to try to figure out how to win and that wouldn't be fair to students!

What if there are two people with my name at my college or university?

If you win one of the things we request from you is your student ID or the last four numbers in your social security number. We provide this data to your financial aid office to ensure they match the correct person with the scholarship. Return to the questions.

Why do you require a phone number?

We try to notify winners as fast as possible, to do this we call you if you win. Unless you are a winner, we won't call you! Return to the questions.

Why do you require my school information to enter scholarships?

We send scholarship money directly to the school to ensure that all winners are actually students. Return to the questions.

Why do you allow some people to earn points but not enter scholarships?

Since we only send money to a college financial aid office we only allow those registered with a college to enter free college scholarships. Otherwise we'd have nowhere to send the money. We also want high school students to be able to join up and so we allow them to start building up their points early so that when they enter college they have a good shot at winning a free college scholarship using all their accumulated points. Return to the questions.

Can I give my points to somebody else if I am no longer in school?

Points are non-transferable, sorry. Return to the questions.

I forgot my username?

Your username is the email address you registered your account with. Return to the questions.

I forgot my password?

No problem. Go here and enter your email address and we'll send it to you: I FORGOT MY PASSWORD Return to the questions.

It sounds too good to be true? What's the catch?

There is no catch. We run this program to give back to students because students who use our websites help us run our business. Through your interactions with us we will try to expose you to our other websites but ultimately you don't have to do anything. Return to the questions.

I have an idea for earning points. How can I communicate my idea to you?

We love ideas! Go to the Scholarship Points forum and post your idea under "suggestions" we review all posts and generally answer them quickly. Return to the questions.

How much free scholarship money is available for students each year?

In 2007 we gave away $7,000 total. In 2008 we have given away over $10,000 already and by the end of 2008 we will have given out more than $30,000 in free college scholarship. If people keep joining we'll grow that number again in 2009! Return to the questions.

How are the winners for each scholarship chosen?

Winners are chosen in a random drawing. The drawings are held on the 1st of every month for the prior month. We use an automated software program which draws entries randomly. We draw 3 people and the first is the winner. The second and third are contacted in order if we can't get in touch with the winner or if the winner is found to have cheated the system. Return to the questions.

Is it a random drawing, or are there certain criteria that you look for?

It's a random drawing. The only criterion is that you've earned at least one points and chosen a free college scholarship to enter it into. Return to the questions.

Is there anything I can do to raise my chances to be chosen for a scholarship?

Earn more points! That's the only way you can increase your chances.

Return to the questions.

When is the next drawing?

The drawings are held at the beginning of every month for monthly free college scholarships and on the date specified for other special scholarships. Return to the questions.

Can someone that has already won, win again?

Yes! The drawings are random so it's possible to win multiple times. Return to the questions.

I'm not an American citizen, so can I sign up?

You do not need to be an American citizen to win, but we can only award scholarships to people attending schools in the United States (and to a limited extent in Canada). Return to the questions.

I won, but I didn't receive a check. Where is it?

We send checks directly to the school. It may take up to 3-4 weeks from the time you contact us with your winner information until your school receives the check, but we try to be as fast as we can. Return to the questions.

Can international students be members?

Yes, but they MUST attend a school in the US. In fact, we've already had one international student win. Return to the questions.

Where do you enter a Scholarship Points code?

When you log in, there is a box in the upper right corner that is labeled "Redeem Bonus Codes" - you can enter codes here to receive credit for them. Return to the questions.

Where do I get bonus codes?

There are many bonus codes. Normally, you receive bonus codes in return for performing some action, such as taking a survey or signing up for a newsletter. All the current points-earning opportunities are located on the Earn Points page. Return to the questions.

I was previously a member of forums or newsletter before joining scholarship points; can I get credit retroactively?

Sure you can, just send an email to members@scholarshippoints.com telling us the forum name and your username registered there. Return to the questions.

I tried to join a forum or signed up for the newsletter and didn't receive my code

When you join a forum the code is displayed for you on the forum thank you page or emailed to you in a registration confirmation email . If you cannot find your code, please send an email to members@scholarshippoints.com telling us the forum name and your username registered there. Return to the questions.

Where can I view the latest Free Scholarship Newsletter?

We send out Free Scholarship Newsletters several times each month. You can always view the latest issue at www.ScholarshipPoints.com/newsletter. Return to the questions.
