Are you ready for some football?

I have been starved for football action for months! Fortunately for me my son Barrett was born on February 1. That saved me. The little mans arrival made the pain of a Patriots Super Bowl loss two days later more tolerable and allowed for the past 6 months to fly by! But enough about me. Let’s talk about my fellow Patriots fans!

Did you know the Patriots offer a Write On scholarship for students 13-18 years old? The scholarship is open to any legal resident of one of the New England States (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

To enter, simply write between 500-750 words about the Patriots most recent game. After every four game stretch on the Patriots schedule, a first place winner of $5,000, two second place winners of $2,500, and six $1,000 winners will receive scholarship money. In addition, at the conclusion of the season, all previous winners will be eligible to win the $15,000 grand prize, $10,000 runner-up prize or the $5,000 honorable mention prize. 06.04.08 | The Truth About Professor Plastic

Posted in scholarship points, scholarships by Point Guard

People have been asking me lately what the deal is with Professor Plastic. Basically here’s the thing- he and I are exact opposites and I have no idea what his name means. I embody all that is good and just in this world and he is pretty much evil and creepy. We’re opposites in many other areas too like I have hair, I have friends, I live in a house, I have 10 toes, I get paid to do my job- and I could go on. Him, not so much. He is the Joker to my Batman, the Lex Luthor to my Superman, the Green Goblin to my Batman the Anakin to my Obi Wan.

So why do we work together you might ask? Well, Professor just came upstairs to the office one day from the soup kitchen downstairs and sat down at a desk. For awhile we let him eat his soup and didn’t bother him except to spray him with Lysol when the fruit flies got thick. After awhile we decided he had to start doing something to at least pay for the Lysol if he was going to be here so we let him start helping with Scholarship Points. Back then the program was very small but now that the program is blowing up- so isn’t Professor’s ego. Now he thinks he’s running the show! I had to bring in Sally to keep track of him. She sits across from him with a spray bottle and when he gets out of line she sends a jet of water into his face. Professor hates that.

Still, his oddness is somewhat endearing. It may be a bit of Stockholm Syndrome (look it up) but I find his shenanigans and personality interesting to have around and I hope you enjoy his bizarre Wednesday trivia. The goal is to make it fun to earn chances at free college scholarships. Not everybody can win so if everybody at least has fun then it helps me meet my goals.

I think we’re heading for a Guitar Hero dual. Comment “ROCK ON” if you’d like to see me take him down!

06.03.08 | Important Program Information: More Points & Prizes

Posted in scholarship points, scholarships by Point Guard

Hey Pointers this is a blog that can help you so pay attention. Did you know that I have a MySpace profile you can join? On my MySpace page there is a code for 10 points and on Fridays I usually post a code on my MySpace blog for more points. Only my friends can see it and it isn’t available on this site! So check me out and also let me know what you want me to add to make it even cooler (if that’s even possible). http://www.myspace.com/pointsteam

Starting with May’s drawing we are now going to give away prizes to the runners-up. You see each month we draw three names in case we can’t get in touch with the first name we draw. I always feel bad not doing anything with the names of the runners-up to let them know how close they were. Well now we’re going to give the first runner-up a $15 iTunes gift certificate and the second runner-up a $10 iTunes gift certificate! You will get them sent to you via email. This month the winners are:

  • · $1,000 Scholarship Winner: Kay Ritchie
  • · 1st Runner-up iTunes Winner: Andrew Trimble
  • · 2nd Runner-up iTunes Winner: Alexander Myton

Finally we’ve settled on a regular pattern of points activities and they will be posted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so be sure to check back. Not all activities will be left up for a long time so its important that you check frequently.

There is a new Scholarship Point activity up today I hope you jump all over like the spider monkeys that you are. With the increasing popularity and acceptance on online degrees you all ought to at least find out about them. Imagine graduating from college, getting a job and getting an MBA online instead of spending more time poor and scavenging for scholarship money.

Swing on over Tarzan and check out the survey activity page to give it a whirl.

03.25.08 | How you can increase the free scholarships we give away

Posted in scholarship points, scholarships by Point Guard

At ScholarshipPoints.com our job is to gain as many active members as possible. The more active members we have the more we are able to give away in free scholarships. A year ago we gave away $250 per month and had just 3,500 members. We’ve been growing quickly in 2008 and so we now we give away $1,000 per month plus two $10,000 scholarships this year.

With your help we can push the free college scholarships even higher. One of the most important things for us to do is to bring in more web traffic. Links to our site from high school and college websites are a giant help to us. If your school offers a link to free college scholarships or financial aid resources for students we would all benefit from getting a link posted from there to our website. If you accomplish that, send us an email with the page the link is on and we just might be so happy we’ll give you a special thank you code for extra free scholarship points.

Here is some recommended text for an email you might send:

Dear (name),

I am a student at (your school) and I’m also a member of a website that gives away free college scholarships to students every month. Its a really cool idea, they ask us to take short surveys and look at free educational guides in return for points which we then redeem for entries. They just gave away $10,000! It would be great if you could add a link to them on our website so that other students at (your school) could have access to these free scholarships.

The link is: http://www.ScholarshipPoints.com

Thank you,

(your name)

03.12.08 | February Contest Winners Update

Posted in scholarship points, scholarships by Point Guard

Phew. February was a busy month around here. We had three winners to choose. We had the February $250 Scholarship winner (now $1,000 Scholarship) to choose, we had the $10,000 scholarship winner to choose and we had the refer-a-friend champion iPod winner to crown champion. I am pleased to announce we have confirmations from all 3 winners so if you were not contacted I’m sorry but you didn’t get it this time.

I don’t yet have all the information for the 2 randomly drawn free college scholarship winners but when I get it from them I’ll be posting it on the Winners Page. I do have all the infor for the refer-a-friend champion however and a shiny new iPod Touch is on its way to Chris Romanowicz at the University of Iowa. Congratulations Chris!

A few of you might be saying, “hey, I referred a zillion friend’s how did anybody beat me?”. Come on, we have time stamps on entries and access to all the data for every friend you referred. I took several days to go through it all looking for cheaters so friends like asdfasdf asddfas with an email address like 124rwertq@yahoo.com got you disqualified and we stated that would happen in the rules.

With any luck I’ll be releasing the names of the other 2 February winners this week but hey we’re halfway to the March free scholarship drawing so get going and win the $1,000 would you? Its being sponsored by www.FafsaOnline.com so go fill out your FAFSA as well.
